Use: This test is used to detect exposure to Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) types 1 or 2, as well as differentiates between both types and assists in diagnosis and patient management. Herpes type 1 is associated with an oral infection that causes cold sores or fever blisters around the mouth and lips. Herpes type 2 is associated with an infection in the genitals that results in sores around the rectum or genitals. Recommended For: Those who suspect exposure to herpes and/or are experiencing sores and blisters around the mouth or genitals. Special Notes: It is recommended to wait at least 3 months after the last time of possible exposure to be tested. Otherwise, no special preparation is necessary prior to blood sample collection.
